چکیده

Generic Ontologies are introduced in GDOL, an extension of DOL, the Distributed Ontology, Modeling and Specification Language, and implemented using Hets, the Heterogeneous Tool Set framework. Parameters such as classes, properties, individuals, or whole ontologies may be instantiated with arguments in a host ontology. A Generic Ontology Design Pattern, GODP, defined in GDOL, embodies an ontology development operation and serves as a methodological tool for ontology development. Some non-trivial GODPs are presented for illustration, e.g. for qualitatively graded relations.

Closing the Semantic Gaps in Topic Maps and OWL Ontologies with Modelling Workflow Patterns

The existing semantic gaps in ontologies are the reason why the challenges in interoperability and integrations tasks within the Semantic Web are often missed. It is due to the fact, that each ontology inherently implies a set of different model types. We argue that an ontology has to disclose the modelling method which intentionally defines the model type used in an application. This paper pro...

A Core Pattern for Events

In our experience, the modeling of events of all sorts is often central in ontology development. Indeed, many proposals for models of events exist, some in the form of lightweight vocabulary, and some in the form elaborately axiomatized ontologies. However, there is as of now no clear, generic, and concisely described pattern for modeling events as part of an ontology. In this brief paper, we d...

Thematization Strategies in the Generic Moves of Research Article Introductions

Despite the heterogeneity of ideas regarding the definitions of genre, there are also common instances shared among scholars interested in particular aspects of the notion. Swales (1990) and Bhatia (1993) are primarily interested in the sociological and psychological aspects of genre's functioning and construction, respectively.. Swales analyzes the genre of 'article introduction', into four ge...

Detection and Transformation of Ontology Patterns

As more and more ontology designers follow the patternbased approach, automatic analysis of those structures and their exploitation in semantic tools is becoming more doable and important. We present an approach to ontology transformation based on transformation patterns, which could assist in many semantic tasks (such as reasoning, modularisation or matching). Ontology transformation can be ap...

From ontology design to ontology implementation: A web tool for building geographic ontologies

In this paper, we provide a web-based tool for building geographic ontologies. This work draws from a previously presented framework for building geographic ontologies utilizing Natural Language Understanding Semantics. Several special characteristics of geographic concepts have been tackled therein making it an appropriate framework for providing a generic ontology of geographic ontology desig...
